The interface between Troy Vision and Campaign Monitor or dotdigital allows candidates / contacts from Troy to be added / updated within the service and for bounce back and unsubscribed emails from a campaign to be processed by Troy.
The remainder of this document refers to dotdigital, but the process is the same in both cases.
Before any ‘interfacing’ can take place, you will need to configure Troy to recognise dotdigital. This is done via the Email/SMS/Letter Templates option within the main Settings menu. The window shown below will now be displayed.
Click the tab entitled email service and then choose the dotdigital option (as highlighted in red above). You will now need your dotdigital API user and password. Troy needs these two pieces of information in order to communicate with the dotdigital API (Application Processing Interface). Please note, these are not the same as your username and password used to login to dotdigital, they are configured within the dotdigital portal under the account menu.
Once you have entered the API credentials, simply tick the users that you wish to use the interface. If a user has their own API credentials, then click the user which will show an area in which their personal API credentials can be added. If a user does not have their own API credentials, the default will be used.
You are now ready to use the dotdigital interface within Troy.
Exporting candidates / contacts
You can export any list of people (candidates or contacts) to dotdigital. Simply load the list that you want to export and from the main menu click the Send To icon on the main menu. This will display a drop-down menu with a number of options, of which you want to choose External Email Campaign Service.
From the resultant window choose which people in the list are to be exported and then either choose an existing address book within dotdigital or create a new one by typing a name within the prompt provided.
Then simply choose which locations are to be used to pick up the email addresses exported, home for candidates and work for contacts and tick/untick whether people who have unsubscribed are to be excluded (The excluded option is ticked by default). When ready click the Send button to export the people to dotdigital. Please note, that it may take several minutes for the people to appear within the dotdigital portal.
The email address, name and postal code of the individuals are exported to dotdigital.
Processing unsubscribes and bounce backs
Troy is able to mark candidates and contacts within its database as unsubscribed using the results of an email campaign through dotdigital. It can also remove email addresses which have bounced back. To do this, open up the message centre from the main Troy menu then click the Campaign Service tab.
To see the email campaigns stored within dotdigital click the Get Campaigns button, then wait whilst Troy connects to dotdigital and retrieves all the email campaigns within it. Troy will display the campaign description, subject, when it was sent, the number of recipients (if the campaign has been sent) and whether Troy has processed the unsubscribe emails within it.
To see more information about a campaign, right mouse-click upon one and then choose Results from the menu. The window shown below will be displayed. Please note that results can only be seen for campaigns that have been sent.
As you can see from the window above various information about a campaign be can seen within the results window. If you click upon the view hyperlink adjacent to the piece of information that you wish to see, the list of email addresses which relate to that information is shown within the panel on the right. You can then save that result as a list of people within Troy by clicking the Create List button.
You will also see a tabbed window in the bottom left. This is where bounce-backs and unsubscribe emails are processed. For bounce-backs you can choose whether you wish the email address for those emails bounced back to be removed, or by leaving the box unticked a history event will be created against the individual recording the fact that the email bounced back.
If you have enabled subscription within Troy, you also have the opportunity to flag the individuals as unsubscribed for the emails which replied ‘unsubscribe’ to the campaign. To do this, simply click on the Unsubscribers tab then click the Unsubscribe button.
